BSix Sixth Form College makes a good cleaning arrangement better - guided by i-Clean Systems and with positive contributions from the contractor
A sixth form college in London is obtaining significantly better value from its cleaning contract, whose
price remains some £100,000 annually, and is fully honouring its claim to provide 'state-of-theart'
facilities, having increased the efficiency of the work done through a review using the i-CleanTM
Cleaning Management System.
Initially the contractor - Rainham, Essex-based Ketray
Contract Cleaning - was concerned that the exercise,
involving an external consultant, may not pay enough
attention to the particular challenges of cleaning the
busy and complex BSix College campus.
"Theconsultant from i-Clean Systems approached the
contractor with tact," recalls the premises manager,
Bob Herring, who led the college's cleaning review.
"Lively exchangesled to a productive sharing of ideas
about equipment and methods as benchmarking
results - related to the objective standards published
by the British Institute of Cleaning Science - were
produced by i-Clean."
The college's principal, Ken Warman, decided that any cost savings identified in the exercise should
be re-invested in the form of improved cleaning service.
"Now, we have more cleaning done in the holiday periods, for the same money by the same
contractor, and a more efficient working during term, using better methods and equipment," Mr
Herring continues. "The service gain amounts to some 15% of the contract price: that is, £15,000
worth over a year.
"More than that, expert attention has been paid to health & safety aspects, including ensuring that
the college always has full safety data for the cleaning contract. We can demonstrate 'due diligence'
concerning the work done on the site.
"Six-weekly review meetings with the contractor are helping us to sustain best value."
