Project improves quality and efficiency delivering £600k in savings
CHALLENGE
With a national demand for increased safety and quality and a continual focus on efficiencies, York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust called in i-Clean to benchmark their in-house cleaning services to ensure they were using the proper processes and procedures to deliver the best quality and value for money.
"The trust has to complete an annual statutory return using the NHS tool, ERIC (Estates Return Information Collection). While our results have been reassuring there is not the depth or accuracy of data to compare with Trusts and draw solid conclusions."
Andy Fargrieve, Head of Estates and Facilities, York Teaching Hospitals.
SOLUTION
Following a detailed analysis of documentation and on-site inspections, i-Clean consultants worked with the Trust's Facilities and Estates Teams and Senior Management to conduct a Trust-wide benchmarking efficiency review.
The report of findings identified the potential for significant savings, largely through the revision of risk categories and frequencies, increased and systemised use of micro-fibre and the standardising of processes and procedures across all sites.
Micro-fibre was trialled and adopted by the Trust, and i-Clean were engaged to revise risk categories, frequencies and to support with standardisation across the Trust.
RESULT
"The i-Clean benchmarking process has enabled us to accurately measure the Trust, identify areas of discrepancies and make improvements to raise quality and reduce costs.
We have only had to make a small cost-investment in micro-fibre, however the long-term benefit far outweighs the cost and overall we are targeted to make a potential cost-saving of £600,000.
We have been fully supported by i-Clean and I am very happy with the service received and look forward to an on-going partnership."
